How to read this site. GBIF is a global index of biodiversity observations. For any place and month we count the records filed under each species, using only records whose licence allows commercial reuse. That gives a genuinely useful signal — what is around, and when — while being honest that it measures recording effort as much as wildlife.
Data snapshot: 2026-10-06. Refreshed periodically from the GBIF API.
